The images change from one to another via a random series of pre-programmed transitions, making the imagery that much more interesting. Never the same, the transitions help with the main function of any screensaver, which is to ensure that the images on your desktop don't remain visible for so long that they permanently "burn" little shadows of themselves onto your desktop.
